Mediation – Mediation means an informal dispute resolution process where a neutral person, the mediator, helps people resolve their disputes. A mediator does not have the power to force people to reach an agreement, or to impose a decision on them.  It is usually a private process. However, some courts require parties in family law cases to try to mediate their case. Those courts will not set a case for trial unless the mediation failed to produce a settlement.
